Ford Mondeo engine cooling system service manuals - is a part of Ford Mondeo repair manuals: Engines. This part contains the detailed description and engine cooling system diagrams for Ford Mondeo with four-cylinder petrol engines, including special/limited editions (1597cc, 1796cc, 1988cc), Diesel and V6 engines.
Ford Mondeo engine cooling system diagram: 1 - radiator; 2 - (twin) electric cooling fan and shroud; 3 - expansion tank; 4 - filler/pressure cap; 5 - bolt; 6 - (single) electric cooling fan and shroud bracket; 7 - bolt; 8 - coolant pipe; 9 - Nut; 10 - top mounting rubber; 11 - bottom mounting rubber; 12 - bolt; 13 - radiator mounting; 14 - coolant hose; 15 - bolt; 16 - radiator top hose; 17 - coolant pipe/hose; 18 - stud; 19 - thermostat housing; 20 - radiator bottom hose.
All Ford Mondeo models employ a pressurised engine cooling system with thermostatically-controlled coolant circu-lation. A water pump mounted on the drivebelt end of the cylinder block/crankcase pumps coolant through the engine. The coolant flows around each cylinder and toward the transmission end of the engine. Cast-in coolant passages direct coolant around the inlet and exhaust ports, near the spark plug areas and close to the exhaust valve guides. A wax pellet type thermostat is located in a housing at the transmission end of the engine. During warm-up, the closed thermostat prevents coolant from circulating through the radiator. Instead, it returns through the coolant metal pipe running across the front of the engine to the radiator bottom hose and the water pump. The supply to the heater is made from the rear of the thermostat housing. As the engine nears normal operating temperature, the thermostat opens and allows hot coolant to travel through the radiator, where it is cooled before returning to the engine. The cooling system is sealed by a pressure-type filler cap in the expansion tank. The pressure in the system raises the boiling point of the coolant, and increases the cooling efficiency of the radiator. When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant expands, and the surplus is displaced into the expansion tank. When the system cools, the surplus coolant is automatically drawn back from the tank into the radiator.
Ford Mondeo cooling fluid replacement
For cooling fluid replacement in engine cooling system:
- unhook wire from the negative side of the accumulator battery;
- establish a front part of the car on bearing parts;
- remove a filter under the radiator;
- at the cold engine remove the expansion tamk; on the warm engine cautiously remove the tank cover;
- before to remove an expansion tank cover, reduce a system pressure;
- for cooling fluid plum turn away a bleed holder plug (fig. 1). Capacity for liquid gathering establish in the place shown on fig. 2;
- after liquid plum turn the plug;
- wash out system; unhook the bottom hose from the radiator; then insert the hose into the expansion tank and wash out water until it will not leave pure the bottom branch pipe;- connect the bottom hose and fix it;
- lower the car;
- establish steering of a heater in position «Heiss»;
- prepare a mixture from 40 % of antifreeze and 60 % of water (add more antifreeze if the car is supposed to maintain at low temperature) and accurately fill in it in an expansion tank;
- check up level of a cooling fluid and in case of need add to the label «Max»;
- attach a wire to negative the plug of the accumulator battery;
- start up the engine and warm up it to a working temperature;
- if necessary add a cooling fluid in the tank.
